The Hazards of Rickshaw Travel and Tips to Avoid Them

…or Rickshaw Know-how from the Rickshaw Mavin

Rickshaws

Rickshaw travel can be a highly risky, expensive business as well as a serious health hazard. I will do my best to help you past all the pitfalls if you ever chance to ride a rickshaw in India or similar form of transportation in other parts of Southeast Asia where it is also known as a tuk-tuk.

First of all, rickshaw drivers have a form of telescopic vision and can spot the uninitiated coming from a mile away. You can literally be “taken for a ride” – a very short ride – which can cost the unawares traveler anywhere from 50-150 rupees. The true price for the same ride in a shared rickshaw, which all of these actually are, is 5 rupees. So, when you need a rickshaw to anywhere, first find out…

MOVING BEYOND PAIN

Pain, (can be physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, or a combination of these), is frightening, frustrating, debilitating and depressing. Pain is our body’s way of telling us that something is wrong…something needs to be fixed.

FB_IMG_1471263964552

Whether the pain is prolonged and chronic, or sudden and acute, it is not something we can ignore. We worry, we obsess, we try everything possible to make it go away…we look for reasons, we try to understand…and still the pain persists!

FB_IMG_1453189576166

Prolonged pain, especially where no immediate solution is found, is frustrating and frightening. It effects our day to day functioning and leaves us with a feeling of complete hopelessness when confronted with its uncertainty. It is a very frightening place to be especially when we see no imminent relief in sight.

It is weakening and debilitating, using vast stores of energies, and the unresolved issue leads to extreme levels of stress which further weaken and deplete our systems.

So, how do we get past this? OR…move through it?

FB_IMG_1428561672907

First of all, we “allow” it to be, surrender to it…do not fight it. It is there for a reason. We accept it with gratitude, Faith and Freedom from Fear. We do our best to be compassionate, gentle, patient and kind with our weakened self. We flow and trust that all IS well and WILL BE well.

FB_IMG_1448607569316

HOW DO WE DO THAT? With FAITH. FAITH in whatever it is you believe in. FAITH that all is as it should be for our Higher Good…that there is a bigger picture, and overview, which we are unable to see….FAITH that all will resolve itself in the best possible way, at the best possible time. We RELEASE our fears expectations, judgments, ego, and interference…we allow God, Source, Creation, Universe Higher Being, to bring all things into play in the best possible way for our Higher Good.

FB_IMG_1456037456215

Doing this is very difficult…despair, hopelessness, despondency, distress and depression are all working against us and it takes a conscious ad concerted effort on our part.

How do we reignite our Faith in difficult times? That is another entire post…but Prayer, Meditation, asking for guidance and direction and the wisdom to hear the answers…and work with them towards the solution which is already in place. AND BE GRATEFUL. Faith is not something that just happens. We have an active role in keeping it alive…we co-create our lives together with Spirit. (More in a future post)

FB_IMG_1450493698227

But when we DO make the effort, we will lovingly and gratefully find ourselves moving back into our Sweet Spot back to balance, to bliss, to joy, to acceptance to gratitude and to happiness.

Almost seems boring to write a post about the ebb and flow of everyday life.  But “everyday life” is pretty much it.  It’s what we have.  It is a true adventure, with amazing surprises at every turn. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but today…it IS the only true reality. And making the most of that reality, is what it’s all about.

IMG_416780709582169

Very often, everyday life is like a pleasant stroll along the seashore at sunset, with a cool ocean breeze gently blowing. But more often these days, it feels like a week long mountain trek over difficult terrain with a full pack to carry.  It is during these seemingly difficult periods, that we learn our most important lessons…

  • Gracious, grateful and JOYFUL acceptance of each moment, and of who, and HOW we are in each moment.

The lesson might include the rude awakening to our “older” self, which probably will include certain limitations, but will definitely include new horizons and vistas which we could never have even dreamed of in our younger years.  Learning to love ourselves completely, exactly as we are at the moment, is a great blessing.  Never forgetting the child within, is part of that lesson.  There is NO limitation to being in touch with our inner child, to being  “childlike” (not childish).  It is the secret of feeling young.  Age IS only a number, but there are changes (mostly physical) associated with that number. The challenge is appreciating these changes and flowing with them, not fighting against them.

LOOK YOUR AGE

These lessons  can help bring us closer to others as well…allowing us to feel truly part of the WHOLE.

Each of us has our own unique path, but we also experience many of the same things as others along our own individual paths. Recognizing our uniqueness, as well as our similarities, makes it so much easier for us to be of assistance to others…AND to ask for assistance from others..

Being of assistance has always been part of who I am.  But the learning to ask for, and RECEIVE assistance, has taken me a good part of a lifetime to learn.  But the learning, and finally acceptance of the lesson has enriched me more than I could ever have imagined…

Allow your everyday life to ebb and flow, to unwind, as it will.  Gratefully, joyfully, fearlessly accept it exactly as it is, with complete Faith that all is truly as it is meant to be, in each and every moment, for your Higher Good, according to Divine will.

I’M BACK

It’s been about 1 1/2 years since I last posted here.  There are many reasons for my absence, and truthfully, I thought I was finished with blogging.

But once again, several synchronicities have blessed me over the past several months, all leading me to this day, when, with great joy and gratitude, I return to my writing.

This past year and a half has been a true roller coaster ride…so many unbelievable things finding their way into my life…experiences, people, wisdoms…things beyond anything I could ever imagine or even dream of.

stranger than fiction

So, where to begin….

How about the fact that I turned 70 this year!  Still trying to wrap my head around that number…which basically, is all that it is…a number.  But still, all my life, even today, when I hear that someone is 70, my first thought is, “gee, that’s old!” .  And yet…I’m definitely NO!

70 birthday all together

So wrapping my head around the whole notion is an interesting process.  And it has brought me great insights, understandings and loving perceptions of who I am at this stage in my life.  I have also begun to work with other women who will find themselves at this crossroads in life and the responses have been remarkable.

I feel deeply grateful and immensely blessed to have reached this wonderful new place in my life…I don’t know where the coming posts will lead, but have a feeling that many of them will be related to this new stage in my life’s journey…and this is very exciting to me.

Wonderful family, new love, continued love affair with India, dancing more than ever before,  deepening my Reiki, Yoga and Meditation practices…all wonderful things.

So…good to be back, and look forward to whatever beautiful surprises lay ahead.

The photos in this post are just some scenes from my last days here….

I have not done much blogging these past three months while in Rishikesh.  I did not feel the need to record and share the many amazing things that have happened to me on the journey this year, and I honored that feeling as much as possible.  This has been an exciting and rewarding three months for me, more than I could ever have imagined…

It was much more than the usual enlightening journey and opportunity to grow that India always is for me.

SHANA TOVA – HAPPY NEW YEAR

India 2008-2015

…EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT JEWISH!  🙂

SHANA TOVA HAPPY NEW YEAR

As always, my prayers are with all of you and as the Jewish New Year approaches, this is a good time to contemplate (and you don’t have to be Jewish to use the opportunity) where you were last year at this time, where you are today, how you feel about your “today” and how much of what you dreamed of last year you have succeeded in manifesting into reality !!

I leave you with my blessings for another wonderful year, and of course with the following food for thought:

Cultivating Faith is no different than cultivating a garden. The more time you spend on it,the more beautifully it will grow and bring you joy. You must weed it continually, and the weeds in the garden of Faith are fear and doubt. The water and fertilizer which allow it grow are prayer, meditation and…more…
